Yesterday, Koro took the car while all the adults were having a nap--and he left without his phone. Jarrah addressed him first when he came home, wasn't too happy . . so I just asked him where did you go, you were gone a long time. He said he didn't mean to go for a long time and he was sorry. I reminded him that he tends to forget things and no one knew where he was.
Jarrah and I decided that we would hide the keys. I didn't know the keys she gave me had the post office keys on it too. So today at work he calls to ask me if I had his keys. I said no, because technically I didn't, but when he asked if I knew where they were--I could not tell a lie. He was ranting and raving at me on the phone and told me to get out and he would never do something like that to me.
So I came home (because my tummy was running as well) and had to listen to him rave on and on and "who the hell do you think you are?"
"Your wife who is trying to look out for you."
"I don't need anyone looking out for me. So, you just keep your key so you can go wherever you want to go without me is that it?" I let him go on and on until, "Are you finished?" and he says, "Yeah, no get out of here."
I said, "you can have your keys back, here." and he says, "well then you can have your keys back." I looked at it wondering whose keys these were, come to find out it was Jarrah's. He took her keys off her key chain because it looked like our keys. It was too funny, I started laughing until I was tearing up. Jarrah on the other hand didn't think it was too funny, but every time I think about it I start to chuckle again. He showed us!
Then I started to clean the bathroom and he comes back into the room quite calm saying out loud, "Let's go for a ride." I tell him ok but he has to wait a minute. "Really, we can go for a ride?" "Yes, we can go for a ride but you have to wait a minute until I'm done.
Then it was time to go for a ride. I had already decided I could drive to SAM's and put gas. That would give him a nice long ride. So he says, "where are we going?" For a ride. "Where?" to Sam's Club to put gas. "Where is that?" "Over the mountain." "Oh yeah, let's go put gas."
Of course every 30 minutes he asking, "where are we going" and I tell him. As we come out of the H3 tunnel, he passes his very favorite spot --where all the hapu (paunga) plants are growing, reminding him of home.
He goes on and on about how beautiful the trees are, and he just loves this place and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. "Thank you for taking me on a ride," says he. He was such a happy camper . . until we go home.
